I Love my Job
I'm a social media consultant. My company is Virtual Public Relations. I get to design and implement social media campaigns for a variety of clientele. Although I started with a few bumps (and will have MANY more) I can honestly say I love all of my clients and I do great work for them.
Why I started my own Company
While I was pregnant I started stressing out about what life would be like after the baby came. My husband was in school full time and preparing for medical school, I was finishing my bachelor's degree and working full time. I knew that if things stayed the way they were, Jax would be in daycare from 2 months on, and I didn't want that.
After praying and pondering about it for weeks I still didn't have an answer. Since I had to be on bedrest and took early maternity leave, I was back at work when Jax was less than a month old. My employer and job were amazing, but it was incredibly difficult to be away from my son so long, and I wasn't even back at school yet!
By the end of the year I started doing freelance social media work. Originally I intended to do that just to earn a little extra money for Christmas, but I started thinking that maybe this is something I ought to do. My biggest concern was that I wouldn't be able to earn enough to provide for my family.
I finally decided to take the plunge and start getting my business set-up, once I was able to earn a high enough income I would quit my job and only do this full time. It would take awhile, but I wanted to get to the point where I could be home most of the day.
That's when a miracle happened. Someone I had done an internship for saw that I was doing some freelance work and gave me a call. He offered me a job that would pay enough to quit my current job and I would be able to work from home. I can not express how shocked I was. God had answered my leap of faith with a miracle, and I was able to start my own company right away at full speed.
Life Now
That leap of faith on my part and my first client set me in motion. I was able to gain more clientele and raise my prices quickly. Since then I have been on a steep, but fun learning curve when it comes to social media marketing. I now only do work and projects that I enjoy and have even hired an intern.
This is also a job that I've been able to maintain even with all the health issues. The funny part is that I would have had to quit my old job anyway due to the time off I would have had to take for medical reasons, but I would have been in a place where I couldn't have started my own company.
The best part is that Riley doesn't have to go get a full time job and I get to be home with my son and watch him grow. I'm also able to finish up my degree but also work in my field. I get to choose my hours and take the time I need to take care of myself and my family.
How blessed am I? Incredibly, miraculously blessed.
