A Year of Miracles
2016 has been intense. There has been so much change not just in my life but in the lives of most people I've met. As excited as I am for this year to finally end, I can't help but look back and be incredibly grateful for all the miracles that have happened.
To say that I was stressed out at the beginning of the year would be an understatement. I was looking at the next few months with dread. I had to wrap up all these different things so I could move on in my life and I was terrified. Thankfully Heavenly Father was looking out for me and different things started moving into place so I could not only survive but thrive.
Lily came 4.5 weeks early. Her labor and delivery was a miracle all on its own, but having her in the NICU was difficult. But she was only in there for a week and was able to come home. She was on oxygen and a chest monitor for 3 months, but she was able to get off of them by the last week of April and was able to come to my college graduation.
Soon after I graduated I applied for job on LinkedIn. By some miracle I got a job that I loved, at a company that I'm excited to be at, that paid me enough to take care of my family on my own and provides the flexibility I need as a single mom.
I was in a position where I could move into my new life. I started saving for a car, I was planning on getting one for myself as a Christmas present. After I had saved a few thousand I felt that I should pull over one day and there was a car for sale that was exactly what I was looking for but much cheaper than I had budgeted. I was able to get a car in August.
I started saving to move out. I was planning to start looking in January. Then one afternoon I decided to stop by a place to get an idea of what I could afford and felt great about moving there. I had no furniture but my amazing family and neighbors gave me what I needed so we would have more than beds. My apartment looks like it was put together on purpose. Every night I look around and am incredibly grateful for the generosity and love that came with each item. I had a new place in November.
As this year wraps up I can't help but be grateful for all the amazing things that have happened. This has no doubt been the hardest year of my life, and I hope that I don't top it for awhile. These amazing highs have had equal lows, but the good outweighs the bad. The biggest change has been in me. I've never been happier, because I know that when life gets tough I can handle it. I know that when all hope seems lost I turn to Heavenly Father.
Jax and Lily are the highlights and watching them grow has been the best part of everyday. Lily's doing very well now. She started walking at 9 months and is bigger than most babies who are born on time. She has the sweetest smile and has a super high pitched squeal when she's excited, which is all the time.
Jax is talking all the time. He loves telling stories about Hulk, Venom, Spiderman, etc. He would go everywhere in his Hulk costume if I let him. He loves Lily and always gives her hugs. He gets grumpy but he's good at telling me how he feels and why.
I'll always look back on 2016 as an intense year of growing pains but also a year of miracles. Heavenly Father has taken great care of me and my family. I'm lucky to be a mother and to be able to take care of my children. I wouldn't be where I am without my family and without all the love and support from them and many others. Thank you 2016 for teaching me how to be happy no matter the circumstances and to be strong even when it seems impossible.
